Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal
A moss-covered roof isn't just an eyesore, it's actively damaging your home. Moss and lichen hold water against tiles and slates, force joints apart as they freeze and thaw, block gutters with debris, and shorten the life of your roof covering by years. Our roof cleaning service manually removes the bulk of the moss (no high-pressure blasting that damages tiles), applies a long-lasting biocide to kill spores and slow regrowth, then clears every gutter and downpipe as part of the job. Every roof clean is fully risk-assessed, insured, and finished with a full photo report.

FAQ
Roof Cleaning — common questions
Why not just pressure wash the roof?+
High pressure strips the protective coating off concrete tiles, breaks slates and forces water under laps into the roof space. Every reputable roof cleaner uses manual scrape plus biocide — it's the method roofing manufacturers actually recommend.
How long does the biocide treatment last?+
Two to four years on most Scottish roofs, depending on tree cover, aspect and how much sunlight the roof gets. Shaded north-facing roofs regrow faster than open south-facing ones.
Will removing moss damage my roof?+
The opposite — leaving moss on there is what damages the roof. Manual removal is gentle on tiles and slates and stops the freeze-thaw cracking that heavy moss causes.
Is it safe to walk on my roof?+
We use roof ladders, harnesses and, when needed, a scaffold tower. Every job is risk-assessed, insured, and carried out in line with HSE working-at-height guidance.
Do you clean render, walls and soffits too?+
Yes — soft-wash render cleaning and UPVC fascia/soffit washes are a natural add-on to a roof clean, so we can quote both together.
